Full Job Description
Scottish Power are looking for a Project Manager to join them on a 12 month initial contract basis.
For this role, we are looking for someone with solid construction project management experience who is ready to operate in a client-side environment. Contractor-side experience would be very useful, particularly where the individual has gained a practical understanding of site delivery, contractor management, sequencing, risk, quality and programme control.
The successful candidate should be capable of managing defined packages of work or smaller projects with appropriate support, while contributing to the successful delivery of larger projects as part of a wider team. They should be comfortable liaising with contractors, consultants, internal stakeholders and client representatives, and should be able to maintain clear communication around progress, issues, risks and next steps.
Experience of new build construction projects would be preferred, particularly across industrial, infrastructure, utilities, logistics, depot, operational property or similar environments. Experience in regulated utility settings would be helpful but is not essential.
A working awareness of NEC4 contract principles would be beneficial. The candidate does not need to be an expert, but should have some understanding of how NEC contracts operate, including communication, early warnings, change control, programme responsibilities and risk management.
Professional development toward CIOB membership or a recognised project management accreditation such as APM, PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent would be advantageous, although practical delivery experience and the right attitude are likely to be more important at this level.
In terms of personal style, we are looking for someone who is organised, proactive, keen to learn and able to build good working relationships. They should be confident enough to challenge where needed, but also collaborative and willing to seek guidance when appropriate. Strong communication, attention to detail and a practical approach to problem solving will be important.
In summary, we are looking for a capable Project Manager with construction delivery experience, ideally gained across both contractor and client-side environments, who can support the delivery of ScottishPower depot and refurbishment projects while developing further within a client-side project management role.
