Full Job Description
An established specialist subcontractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Glasgow, supporting a major education project and a growing pipeline of work across the Central Belt.
The business has built an excellent reputation delivering SFS, partitions, suspended ceilings, secondary steelwork and fire stopping, working with a strong portfolio of Tier 1 and main contractors across Scotland.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to take ownership of projects while developing their commercial experience within a well-established specialist contractor.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of your projects from procurement through to final account.
You'll also have the opportunity to mentor and support a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
The role will involve a mixture of site and head office working, giving you exposure to both project delivery and the wider commercial operation of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial management of specialist subcontract packages
- Preparing and managing valuations, applications and payment notices
- Cost reporting, forecasting and commercial reporting
- Procurement and subcontract management
- Managing variations, compensation events and commercial changes
- Supporting final accounts and project close-out
- Liaising with clients, Tier 1 contractors and project teams
- Working closely with site teams to maintain commercial control
- Mentoring and supporting a Trainee Quantity Surveyor
About You
We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience working for a subcontractor or specialist contractor, ideally within interiors, fit-out, SFS, partitions, ceilings, drylining or a related construction discipline.
NEC contract experience is desirable, although candidates with strong commercial experience on other forms of contract will also be considered.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction
- A degree in quantity surveying or similar
- Subcontractor/main contractor experience
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
- Experience managing projects from procurement through to final account
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- The ability to work independently while supporting junior team members
- NEC experience - desirable
