An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Resuscitation Officer at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow (Women & Children's directorate). The post holder will help support the Senior Resuscitation Officer in managing and developing the resuscitation service within the resuscitation training department. They will provide specialist knowledge, expertise and training in all aspects of paediatric and adult resuscitation to clinical and non-clinical staff working within the Women & Children's directorate and parents/carers who care for children 'at risk of collapse' throughout the West of Scotland., The role and objectives of the resuscitation service:

  • To provide a comprehensive good quality and clinically effective resuscitation service across the organisation, including provision of clinical expertise in all matters relating to paediatric and adult resuscitation.
  • To provide an audited clinical service within the organisation.
  • To identify training needs with regard to resuscitation, and subsequently coordinate and support the delivery of training appropriate to all staff groups across the organisation.
  • To provide specialist advice and training on all aspects of paediatric resuscitation to parents, carers and organisations within the West of Scotland who have children at risk of sudden collapse in their care
  • The scope and range of the post is adaptable to meet the needs of the service
  • Under the direction, and with support from the Band 7, Senior Resuscitation Officer this post holder will be responsible for:
  • Contributing to the provision of specialist knowledge and education on all aspects of paediatric and adult resuscitation to staff within Women & Children's and the community
  • Contributing to the development of policies and guidelines for resuscitation practice within Women & Children's and GGC, ensuring adherence to national resuscitation guidelines and standards
  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence based care
  • Work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team

    The Resuscitation Officer will be responsible for helping to develop and implement a comprehensive programme of education designed to enhance recognition and management of the deteriorating patient and management of cardiopulmonary arrest in both the paediatric and adult age group, utilising national and international guidelines. The post holder will be a registered nurse with relevant post registration experience. This will be preferably in an acute paediatric clinical environment. They will be highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, communication, IT and organisation skills., Registered Nurse Child or Adult Branch with current NMC registration
  • Degree in Nursing or health related subject or working towards degree
  • Relevant post registration acute clinical experience
  • Current Paediatric Immediate Life Support resuscitation training certificate (or equivalent paediatric life support course)
  • Willing to work towards Resuscitation Council (UK) European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) or Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Instructor status
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

  • Desirable
  • Experience of working in a paediatric high dependency/intensive care or emergency setting
  • EPALS (Resuscitation Council UK) Instructor status or APLS (ALSG) Instructor status
  • Teaching experience, preferably in resuscitation/management of the deteriorating patient
