Retail Assistant

Fixed Term Contract until 18th October 2026

We are seeking a customer focused and proactive Retail Assistant to join our team at Troon and Ardrossan Ferry Terminals on a fixed term basis until October 2026. Reporting to the Retail Supervisor, you will play a key role in delivering an excellent customer experience while providing catering and retail services within a fast paced port environment.

This is a varied role that requires flexibility, initiative and a commitment to delevering high standards of customer service. The post involves working at both Ardrossan and Troon ports as per the operational requirements of each port. 

Key Responsibilities

• Attend to customer needs and respond positively to customer requests
• Deliver a catering and retail service that supports the achievement of customer and business objectives
• Adhere to retail operational procedures, including stock policies and merchandise layout plans
• Follow company cash handling, stock control and security procedures
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and housekeeping within the retails and catering areas
• Support day to day operations as required
• Undertake any other duties as directed by the Retail Supervisor

Essential Criteria

• Good understanding of CalMac services
• Computer literate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Customer focused with a clear understanding of customer service and a proactive approach to customer care
• Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering certification (or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Ability to commute to Ardrossan and Troon Ferry Terminals on a daily basis and work between the two locations, sometimes at short notice, to meet operational requirements
• Flexible approach to working, including shift and weekend work
• Ability to work independently and use initiative with minimal supervision
• Strong team player with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, proactive and fast-paced environment

Desirable Criteria

• Previous customer service experience, including catering, would be advantageous
• Ability to liaise effectively with other retail staff to ensure a high level of communication and coordination of activities
• Food Allergen Awareness certification or knowledge of allergen management within a catering environment
