Full Job Description

Are you an experienced retail professional with a sharp eye for stock control and a passion for delivering great customer experiences?

CalMac is looking for a Retail & Stock Controller on a 24-months contract to play a key role in managing and optimising stock across our fleet and port retail operations. This is a hands-on, highly visible role where you’ll work closely with both onboard and shore-based teams to ensure our food, beverage, and retail offer is accurate, well-presented, and profitable.

About the Role

You’ll take ownership of stock management and retail quality across multiple vessels and port coffee cabins, ensuring everything from deliveries to displays runs smoothly.

From tracking stock movement and minimising waste to supporting retail teams and maintaining high presentation standards, your work will directly impact both operational efficiency and customer experience.

This role involves regular travel across the CalMac network, giving you the opportunity to work closely with teams in a dynamic, multi-site environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing and monitoring stock control and movement across vessels and retail sites
  • Ensuring accurate stock recording, reporting, and system compliance
  • Supporting stock audits, counts, and discrepancy investigations
  • Driving high standards in retail merchandising and food presentation
  • Working with onboard and shore teams to improve stock processes and reduce waste
  • Providing clear reporting and insights to support decision-making
  • Acting as a key link between retail, operations, and supply chain teams
  • Supporting continuous improvement in retail performance and customer offer

What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from candidates who bring experience in retail and stock-driven environments, ideally within food and beverage.

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • Strong background in retail, food & beverage, or hospitality environments
  • Proven experience in stock management, stock control, or inventory processes
  • Experience in retail or multi-site operations
  • Confident in data, reporting, and stock systems (including Excel)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams
  • Full, valid driving licence and willingness to travel regularly

Desirable:

  • Experience in account management, supplier liaison, or commercial retail roles
  • Knowledge of waste reduction and cost control in F&B environments
  • Experience in multi-site or logistics-based operations

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Make a real impact on retail performance and customer experience
  • Work across a unique maritime and multi-site environment
  • Build strong relationships across onboard and shore-based teams
  • Play a key role in optimising stock, reducing waste, and improving efficiency
