About the role

We have an excellent opportunity for a Risk Manager to join our Risk & Compliance team.


The Risk Manager will develop and embed an effective enterprise-wide risk management framework that meets relevant regulatory and legislative requirements. The Risk Manager will deputise for the Head of Risk as required.


The ideal candidate will be an operational risk specialist and have a strong ability to apply knowledge of risk and control systems, processes, reporting and regulatory requirements with subject matter expertise in operational risk practices. Knowledge and experience of mitigating cyber security and information security would be advantageous. 


Financial services experience, and knowledge of the banking industry is desirable.

Some of the main responsibilities/key duties will be to:

Develop the risk framework

To act as subject matter expert for the establishment, maintenance and oversight of an effective risk management framework that delivers sustainable business growth through the economic cycles and meets relevant regulatory/legislative requirements.

·        Ensure the risk and control methodology is adopted across the business in key decision making e.g. projects and strategy;

·        Drive the risk and control assessment process, ensuring reports on the outcomes are available to the risk committees and the Board;

·        Provide independent challenge to business areas on risk and control assessments and risk mitigation strategies;

·        Develop and maintain risk management tools making sure they evolve and thus remain efficient and appropriate to the nature and scale of the business;

·        Identify and assess emerging risks and advise Head of Risk and management on risk mitigation strategies where required;

·        Track risks and issues that exceed risk appetite and ensure appropriate remedial action is taken both in terms of client impact and root cause analysis;

·        Provide input and challenge on company policy principles, in line with the Board’s agreed risk appetite;

·        Ensure the principles and the high level policies approved by the Board and its committees are effectively communicated, embedded by line managers within the Bank’s detailed processes and procedures, and complied with;

·        Draft papers and reports for the Management and Risk Committees.


Embed a strong risk culture and work collaboratively with the business

·        Offers a professional, high quality and efficient service to the business;

·        Build and maintain constructive and effective relationships across the business in line with the Bank’s culture and behaviours;

·        Deputise for the Head of Risk;

·        Provide support, training, coaching, information and risk systems required by the first line of defence to manage their risks and improve their controls;

·        Provide risk technical guidance and support as required to the Chief Risk Officer and other colleagues;

·        Maintain appropriate independence and objectivity with the key focus on fair client outcomes and achieving business plans within risk appetite;

·        Provide effective challenge and oversight to assist Risk Owners and key stakeholders.
