Roads Officers

All home/hybrid workers must live in the UK. Where an application for home-working is supported, it will be subject to a satisfactory trial period. Employees will be expected to attend Council offices for the duration of induction, and be on site in East Lothian workplaces, as required. Employees with a hybrid working arrangement in place will be office based and able to work from home, with permission, on an ad hoc basis., To support the delivery and development of the full range of duties within Road services, maximising efficiency of service delivery within specific standards and approved budgets and in compliance with the Council's obligations as the local Roads Authority and its policies and plans with a commitment to achieve best value.

We have an exciting opportunity for Roads Officers to join a flexible team of professionals in delivering a high quality service within East Lothian Council Roads Services team. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has knowledge and experience in the inspection and maintenance of a road network. You will undertake the daily operation of the Scottish Road Works Register, issuing notices, coordinating works and monitoring compliance with regulations. You will support by issuing road works instructions and ensuring all duties and responsibilities are fulfilled in terms of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The candidate will need to be confident with good verbal and written communication skills who can quickly establish good working relationships. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of technical staff and will engage with a wide and diverse audience (technical and non-technical) as well as members of the public. It is expected that the individual will be suitably educated to minimum HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience. You will be working within an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within beautiful East Lothian. You will need to have an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service., Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience. Driving Licence As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

  The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week). Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.
Hourly rate of pay: £20.13 - £22.51 The pay scale for this post is £36,735 - £41,078. Consideration will be given to place the successful candidate on higher point of the advertised salary scale, depending on relevant experience and transferable skills. Days and Hours of Work: Working 2 days per week between Monday - Friday, working times to be confirmed.
