Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 7, School Nurse Team Leader within Argyll and Bute HSCP School Health service.  You should have a relevant qualification in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing, and be committed to leading service change and embedding best practice.

This is an exciting time as we maximise the School Nursing contribution and work toward implementing the specialist pathway to improve outcomes of Children and Young People (5-19 years). You will join an established team with a good skill mix and will contribute to the ongoing development of School Nursing across Argyll and Bute.

As School Nurse Team Leader you will provide professional leadership and line management to a small team of school nurses.  Under the management and supervision of the Child Health Manager (CHM) your responsibilities will include line management, leadership, caseload management, and ongoing team development to fulfil the key functions of the School Nursing pathway.

As a School Nurse team leader you should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communicative skills and have the ability to be adaptable and flexible.  Evidence must be provided of keeping up to date in SCPHN school nursing practice issues and awareness of developments in School Nursing and make changes to clinical practice as required.

As a School Nurse Team Leader you will also need to show you are clinically effective, a sound decision maker and have the ability to manage change. You will also require knowledge and experience of systems such as GIRFEC and Child Protection processes.

You should have evidence of extensive experience.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
