Full Job Description

Senior Architect – Residential & Masterplanning

Location: Central Belt

Salary: £48,000–£60,000, depending on experience, plus bonus and benefits

Full-time, permanent | Fully office-based

Enjoy residential architecture, but ready for more influence over the projects, the team and where your career goes next?

Peace Recruitment is working with an established architectural practice to recruit a Senior Architect in the Central Belt. With a growing residential workload, they are looking for someone who can bring strong design judgement, technical experience and the confidence to take responsibility.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Architect who enjoys housing and masterplanning and wants to develop their leadership responsibilities. You will contribute to projects from early layouts and design development through to technical coordination and delivery, with the opportunity to help shape the residential side of the business as you become established.

About the practice

This is a practice with established client relationships, a strong grounding in residential architecture and plans for continued growth.

Their housing work spans developments of different sizes and complexities, from individual residential schemes to larger masterplans. They work closely with developers, consultants and local authorities, balancing design quality with planning requirements, commercial considerations and the practicalities of construction.

Their approach considers the wider setting of a development: how streets connect, how landscape supports the design, how people move through a place and how new housing integrates with its surroundings.

The wider business has experience across several architectural sectors, bringing a range of design and technical knowledge into the team. This particular appointment will focus on residential and masterplanning projects.

The position is full-time and fully office-based in the Central Belt. It will suit someone who enjoys working alongside colleagues, discussing ideas in person and contributing to the day-to-day life of a studio.

The opportunity

Initially, you will work closely with the senior team across residential projects at different scales and stages. As you develop your understanding of the clients and business, the intention is for you to take on greater responsibility and help lead their housing work.

You will combine hands-on architectural work with project coordination, client relationships and support for less experienced colleagues. They are looking for someone who can contribute ideas, make sound decisions and maintain quality throughout the design and delivery process.

There is scope for an experienced Architect to build on their existing project leadership skills and become increasingly involved in the development of the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and contributing to residential design and masterplanning projects.
  • Developing housing layouts that balance placemaking, site constraints and client requirements.
  • Producing, reviewing and coordinating drawing packages and technical information.
  • Managing projects across multiple RIBA stages.
  • Working directly with developers, consultant teams and local authorities.
  • Coordinating project activities and helping maintain agreed delivery programmes.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Resolving design and technical challenges collaboratively.
  • Contributing to the development of the practice’s residential work.

What they are looking for

You will be a qualified Architect with significant experience in residential architecture and/or masterplanning, supported by a portfolio that clearly demonstrates your contribution to relevant projects.

Experience of developer housing is particularly valuable. You should have strong residential layout skills and understand how early design decisions affect planning, technical coordination and construction.

They are interested in someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work, communicates clearly and can build productive relationships with colleagues and external project teams.

You should bring:

  • Strong design judgement and an interest in creating successful residential environments.
  • Confident technical and drawing production skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work to programme deadlines.
  • Confidence dealing with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Enthusiasm for developing and testing ideas throughout a project.
  • A willingness to share knowledge and support the development of others.

Experience managing people or coordinating project teams would be an advantage. If you already lead projects and are ready to build your team leadership experience, this could also be a worthwhile next step.

What is on offer?

The salary is £48,000–£60,000 depending on experience, with an annual performance bonus, enhanced company pension and private healthcare following successful completion of probation.

Alongside the package, the role offers scope to develop your leadership responsibilities and make a meaningful contribution to the practice’s residential work.

For someone who enjoys housing, wants greater ownership and is looking for a role with room to develop, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
