This is an exciting opportunity to join the City of Edinburgh Council as Senior Audit Manager and play a leading role in the delivery and continued development of our Internal Audit Service.

Reporting directly to the Chief Internal Auditor, you will act as their deputy and provide operational leadership across the service. You will lead the day-to-day delivery of our Internal Audit Plans. You will manage our Principal Audit Managers and ensure audit resources are effectively deployed to support the wide and varied range of assurance and advisory services we provide.

This is a broad and influential role.

You will:

• Lead operational performance, quality and delivery across the Internal Audit Service.

• Provide leadership, direction and performance management to the Principal Audit Managers.

• Oversee the allocation of resources and resolve issues affecting delivery of the approved Internal Audit Plans.

• Lead the development of our audit methodology, Quality Assurance and Improvement Programme and preparations for external quality assessment.

• Ensure our work continues to comply with the Global Internal Audit Standards and relevant public sector requirements.

• Represent the Chief Internal Auditor at committees, Boards, senior management meetings and external forums.

• Oversee co-sourced Internal Audit provision and the delivery of services to partner organisations.

• Help us make effective use of technology, data and new ways of working to strengthen the quality and impact of our work.

You will be joining a professional Internal Audit Service with a wide and varied remit. Alongside the Council, the team provides assurance to a number of important partner organisations including across Lothian Pension Fund and the Edinburgh Integration Joint Board giving the successful candidate exposure to a diverse range of services, governance arrangements and strategic risks.

We are looking for an experienced and credible internal audit leader who can combine strong professional knowledge with effective people and operational management. You will be comfortable exercising professional judgement, managing competing priorities and providing constructive advice and challenge to senior stakeholders.

You must hold a recognised Internal Audit or accountancy qualification and have extensive senior internal audit management experience. You will also bring expert knowledge of the Global Internal Audit Standards including UK Public Sector requirements, governance, risk management and internal control.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
