Full Job Description

Speirs Gumley are seeking an experienced Credit Controller to manage and control a portfolio of client accounts. The candidate should have a minimum of 4 years' experience in a relevant or related credit control position and ideally be fully familiar with the following areas:

  • Scottish Legal system - Debt Recovery and enforcement action (Simple procedure, Ordinary Actions, Arrestment Actions, Inhibitions)

  • Relevant property based law (Title Conditions Act 2003 , Notice of Potential Liability

  • Personal Insolvency, Trust Deeds, Bankruptcy

  • Property Factors (Scotland) Act 2011 principles and the requirements of Property Factors (Scotland) Act, Code of Conduct

  • Property sales/conveyancing in particular to secure floats, deposits and mandates for unpaid sums before sales conclude.


  • The successful candidate will be confident and assertive , possessing good communication skills and have an ability to deal with stressful situations in a diplomatic and empathetic manner wherever required . They will be used to working in a high paced, high volume billing environment as part of a team, working under the Direction of the Head of Credit Control.,
  • Reporting to the Head of Credit Control on a regular basis

  • Performing scheduled routines for reminders, demand and final demands

  • Reviewing daily payment postings and updating court ledgers

  • Dealing with call and email queries from clients, solicitors, agents

  • Providing debt reports to Property management team

  • Identifying debts which are potentially unrecoverable, as soon as possible

  • Meeting regularly with Property management team to discuss cases of concern

    They will often be required to work on their own initiative dealing with specific project caseloads , managing them out to a successful conclusion in partnership with the relevant debt recovery agents. Previous or current experience of working in a property management environment would be advantageous. The role will involve
