This is an opportunity to join a growing Project Controls team, working across complex programmes where planning plays a critical role in successful project delivery. You'll lead planning activities across multiple projects or take ownership of a single, high-value programme, providing robust schedules and performance reporting that enable informed decision-making.
The Role
As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for developing, managing and maintaining integrated project schedules throughout the full project lifecycle. Working closely with project managers, commercial teams and clients, you'll ensure programmes remain on track while proactively identifying risks, opportunities and recovery strategies.
You'll also play an important role in mentoring junior planners and supporting the continued growth of the planning function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning activities across multiple projects or complex programmes.
- Develop, maintain and manage detailed project schedules using industry-standard planning software.
- Produce integrated programmes that accurately reflect project scope, milestones and dependencies.
- Ensure programme information is maintained in accordance with contractual requirements and project governance.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to define scope, sequencing and delivery strategies.
- Monitor programme performance, identify critical path activities and assess the impact of delays or change.
- Analyse schedule risks, constraints and float, recommending mitigation and recovery plans where required.
- Carry out programme updates, progress reviews and performance reporting.
- Consolidate project schedules into integrated master programmes where required.
- Produce clear programme reports, dashboards and KPIs for internal and client stakeholders.
- Support project controls activities through planning, forecasting and performance analysis.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning standards, systems and processes.
- Mentor and support junior planners, promoting best practice across the team.
About You
You'll have experience delivering planning services across major infrastructure, engineering, utilities, energy or construction projects and be comfortable working within multidisciplinary project teams.
You'll ideally have experience with:
- Planning and scheduling across the full project lifecycle.
- Developing and maintaining complex project programmes.
- Primavera P6 and other planning software.
- Critical path analysis, float analysis and programme optimisation.
- Integrated master schedules and multi-project environments.
- Progress reporting, forecasting and performance monitoring.
- Schedule risk analysis and change management.
- Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Working under NEC and/or FIDIC contracts.
- Stakeholder engagement across client, contractor and consultant teams.
- Coaching and mentoring junior planning professionals.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline is desirable.
- Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised professional body such as the Association for Project Management (APM) or the Project Management Institute (PMI) is desirable.
- Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance.
