Full Job Description
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven Regional Transport Partnerships, established by the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, delivers projects directly and in partnership with others, and is responsible for preparation of the statutory Regional Transport Strategy for the west of Scotland.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Programme Manager to join our Projects team to work on a variety of projects/programmes within the Corporate Programme section. SPT is managing the process for developing a Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy (SRBS) and leading the preparation of the Case for Investment (CFI) for Clyde Metro, among a wide range of other projects in support of the Regional Transport Strategy and Corporate Plan.
ss and function, but also how we take our staff, stakeholders and customers on this journey.
We have a fantastic opportunity to influence the transport plans for the future in the West of Scotland.
If you have the skills, mindset and a track history of delivering strategic projects and programmes, then this exciting role is key to preparing and delivering SPT’s corporate programme portfolio.
About the Role
The Senior Programme Manager will play a leading role in shaping and driving SPT’s portfolio of strategic projects and programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to work with senior leaders and sponsors across the organisation to turn priorities into ambitious, well-governed and deliverable programmes that make a real impact. You will provide leadership across the programme management function, ensuring projects are prioritised, resourced and reported effectively in support of SPT’s objectives. You will create a joined-up view of the portfolio, bringing clarity to priorities, timescales, dependencies, risks and resource requirements, while also driving continuous improvement and embedding strong standards, tools and methodologies.
About you
We are looking for a strong and credible leader who can operate across multiple priorities, maintain oversight of a complex portfolio, and keep a clear focus on SPT’s wider priorities. You will have previous experience of managing multi-projects/programmes with substantial scope, risk and organisational impact, while leading your team by setting clear expectations, providing coaching and driving high performance. You will have the leadership presence and judgement to lead teams through change, work confidently across organisational boundaries, and manage competing demands while maintaining delivery to a consistently high standard.
Alongside this, you will be an excellent communicator and negotiator with strong organisational skills and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders both internal and external to SPT.
A Programme/Project Management qualification such as MSP, APM or PRINCE2 is essential, and a degree in Business, Project Management, Technology or a related discipline is desirable.
Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. However, you may be required to undertake work outwith this norm to meet the responsibilities of the post. SPT currently operates an informal hybrid scheme of 3 days in office/2 days working from home.
You will be based at 131 St Vincent Street, Glasgow. Please note, this position falls into the low risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and therefore is subject to for-cause testing procedures.
Further details of the role and key responsibilities are set out in the job description.
