For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

  • more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified

The Role

University Hospital Monklands is seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Dietitian to be an active member of the NHS Lanarkshire Renal dietetic team being responsible for delivering a quality specialist dietetic service to renal patients within the renal unit.

This will include providing a dietetic service to:

           Renal Inpatient Services

           Renal Dialysis Units haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

           Pre Dialysis/ Low Clearance Clinics

           Dietetic Renal Clinics

           Multidisciplinary meetings

           Both patient and staff education sessions.

           Service development.

The successful candidate will be required to work at an enhanced/specialist level using previous renal experience to deliver expert evidence-based dietetic assessment, treatment and advice.

           The post will involve both inpatient and outpatient working which will require flexibility in work patterns.

           Multidisciplinary working is essential.

           To provide support and mentorship to junior members of staff within the dietetic team and provide peer support as indicated.

           Participate in the student training programme

What we'll need you to bring

  • Registered Dietitian with valid HCPC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently. 
  • Experience working as a Band 5 Dietitian in various care settings
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
  • Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology

It would be great if you also have

  • Relevant validated post registration course
  • Member of BDA including specialist group
  • General post registration experience. (Annex 21 1-year post graduate)
  • Interest and/or Clinical experience working with chronic renal failure patients
  • Interest and / or experience in student training
  • Experience of training other staff groups on nutrition
  • Evidence of clinical experience and continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of specialist dietetic interventions relevant to post and up to date knowledge of professional issues, including national clinical standards and guidelines
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and its application in clinical practice e.g. clinical audit, risk management etc
  • Evidence of person centre approach to dietetic practice.
  • Evidence of applying evidence based dietetic practice to improve patient care
  • Evidence of ability to work within a team multidisciplinary and uni-disciplinary
  • Flexible and versatile with ability to identify care priorities
  • Ability to work flexible working hours
  • Ability to work under time pressure

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Renal dietetic team within University Hospital Monklands.

The working pattern for this role is: 08:30-16:30 (days to be discussed)
