Your role: You will play a crucial role in ensuring our sports coverage is accurate, engaging, and up to our high standards. You will be responsible for sub-editing sports stories, headlines, and captions, ensuring they are clear, concise, and grammatically correct. You will work closely with our sports reporters and editors to ensure our content is delivered in a timely manner and adheres to our house style.
Day to day you will:
- Reviewing sports content, checking facts to ensure stories are accurate and legally safe and subbing to the Scottish Sun's high standards, quickly and accurately.
- Consulting with reporter/writer and desk heads to resolve issues with copy, suggest new angles and keeping chief subs informed on changes that arise.
- Maintain a wide knowledge of sports, current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms daily.
- Working flexibly as part of a team across a seven-day rota, producing up to 17 pages a day plus three weekend pullouts.
- Maintaining The Scottish Sun's reputation for eye-grabbing headlines.
- Meticulous fact-checking and attention to detail to ensure our pages are as clean as they can.
- Regularly stepping up to join the chief subbing team.
Experienced sub-editors who ideally will already have worked on a sport desk. - Sports fans who have a passion for sport and a good all-round knowledge.
- Team players who will slot seamlessly into a friendly subs desk.
- Tabloid story-tellers who can spot hidden gems in reams of copy.
