Full Job Description

We need an operationally well organised, sales and business focused Store Manager to join our team to build on the established foundations of our Govan Store.

Metal Supermarkets UK (MS) is a network of metal distribution stores. MS has been active in the UK for over twenty years and is part of the Metal Supermarkets Family of Companies (MSFC), headquartered in Toronto, Canada. MSFC is the world's largest supplier of small quantity metals with a primary focus on 'Business to Business' customers, such as small and large manufacturers, tool and die shops, machine shops and fabricators, hospitals, government agencies, schools and universities.

Our Stores carry most standard shapes and grades of black and bright steel, aluminium, stainless, brass, and copper and will source non-stock material upon customer request. Value added services such as production cutting, hole punching and guillotining are also available at most locations., Sales and Business Development:

  • Ensuring the store achieves sales and profitability targets

  • Budget recommendations for management

  • Implement marketing and sales resources

  • Involvement in strategic initiatives to achieve/surpass budgeted sales and profit objectives


  • Customer Service:
  • Build and maintain a customer service and sales focused culture within the store

  • Liaise with customers and industry representatives to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in the store area

  • Provide consistent, superior customer service by ensuring that all customer needs are recognized and serviced, and that satisfaction is exceeded at all times


  • Human Resources:
  • Maximize individual and team potential of all store staff, establish performance expectations and standards; provide constructive feedback, coaching and training, evaluating performance, etc

  • Recruitment of approved positions within the Store

  • Plan, prepare and approve work schedules, vacation requests and overtime

  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, including training staff in safety procedures


  • Store Operations:
  • Manage store operations including customer assistance, purchasing, quoting, tele-sales, product sourcing and material handling

  • Manage the purchasing of stock and services, distribution, warehousing, sales records, strong controls of cash whilst ensuring adherence to policy and procedures

  • Ensure inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts, effective product management in ERP system, daily analysis of negative stock on-hand, and the effective implementation of inventory control policies and procedures including purchasing, receiving, scrap, and shorts

  • Ensure proper maintenance of company vehicles and equipment

    The ideal candidate will be a passionate leader responsible for the Store including hitting/exceeding targets, by making decisions acting on your own initiative alongside guidance, policies and procedures, training, and liaising with Management where needed. You will be a manager commanding respect from your team with excellent communication skills whilst assisting them where necessary and have the following knowledge, skill and/or ability:

  • Read, analyse, and interpret, technical procedures or governmental regulations

  • Multi-task, establish priorities and manage conflict

  • Able to recognise problems, review data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with necessary variables

  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume


  • You will be a good people manager who is confident, assertive, focussed, organised, influential, persuasive, and, adheres to rules and procedures. Experience is required on a Trade Counter, Warehouse Stock Management and B2B operations. Computer proficiency including MS Office, fluent in written and spoken English, strong maths skills and a Category B Manual Driving Licence, good attendance and time-keeping are all required.,
  • Certificate of Higher Education (preferred), B2B sales: 2 years (preferred)

  • Sales management: 2 years (preferred)

  • Customer service: 2 years (preferred)

  • Warehouse Management: 2 years (preferred)

  • Store discount, Competitive base salary of £33,852 per annum plus:

  • You receive a guaranteed incentive of £3,000 for the first 12 months! You can earn more than this as our Annual On Target Incentive = £4,790

  • Additional pension contributions/holiday options offered after 2 years

  • Working hours are 8.00am-5.00pm Monday-Friday, plus 8.00am-12.00pm every second Saturday (between 40 and 44 hours per week)
