The opportunity

We are currently recruiting for engineering position within the Fuel Route Engineering at Torness Power Station. As a System Engineer, you will develop expertise in a wide range of systems and processes, thus an aptitude and openness to learning along with a proven ability to function effectively as a team member is essential. This role will provide a great training basis for someone looking to gain experience within a busy nuclear station.

You will be presented with a challenge to make an electro-mechanical system the most reliable as possible. To do this there will be a requirement to update the system maintenance policy, complete modifications, check safety compliance and review operational efficiency to get the best out of the system while maintaining the safety requirements.

Pay, benefits & culture

The salary range associated with this role is between £40,069 and £98,004 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation company agreement. However, the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £40,069 and £71,779 dependant on the candidate's competence, experience, and qualifications. What you'll be doing

In addition to the above your duties will include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating system performance using feedback from Operations and Maintenance and by conducting Plant Walk-downs of assigned systems.

  • Ensuring the Station Maintenance strategy is aligned with plant needs and adjustments are made to the strategy as required to enhance Equipment Reliability.

  • Ensuring critical equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.

  • Reviewing system health, developing short to long term improvement plans, outage scope, defining Maintenance Policy, Maintenance Schedule changes, managing lifetime management processes on their assigned systems.

  • Maintaining and developing knowledge within your relevant discipline taking responsibility for your own training and development.

  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the plant and systems and act as system manager with responsibility for the equipment reliability of fuel route systems using the core Fleet Engineering and Equipment Reliability processes.

  • Providing technical expertise and knowledge to troubleshooting activities ensuring robust corrective actions are in place to correct issues and prevent reoccurrence

  • Actively participating in the on-line and outage work planning process providing engineering technical input as required ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the criticality of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance from safety, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Having an awareness of relevant legal and regulatory framework and compliance requirements ensuring that all activities are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations, and company standards.

    The minimum qualification acceptable is an HNC/HND in a relevant discipline (electrical or C&I). A degree leading to Chartered status would be advantageous.


  • An ability to build effective networks and negotiate and influence effectively towards the achievement of business objectives.

  • An ability to manage projects from low to high complexity leading diverse multi-disciplined teams.


  • This role is also open to recent graduates that are looking to gain practical experience within a nuclear environment.
