Tax Consultant

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be supporting GAP Group in the recruitment of a Tax Accountant to join its finance team at its Glasgow Head Office.

As the UK's largest independent equipment hire provider, GAP Group operates across almost 200 locations nationwide and continues to invest significantly in its people, assets and long-term growth. This role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of tax compliance and reporting across a large and diverse group of companies while working closely with senior finance stakeholders and external advisers.

The Opportunity

This position will play a key role in managing the group's tax affairs, ensuring compliance across multiple tax disciplines and supporting the business through continued growth. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of tax matters and have the opportunity to drive improvements in tax processes, controls and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of corporation tax calculations and provisional tax figures ahead of review by external advisers
• Calculation of deferred tax balances and preparation of FRS 102 tax disclosures for statutory accounts
• Preparation of quarterly corporation tax payments on account
• Coordination of capital allowance claims with operational teams and external advisers
• Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns
• Management of Option to Tax notifications and PAYE Settlement Agreements
• Ensuring compliance with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) requirements
• Maintenance and review of the group's Tax Risk Register
• Review of SDLT calculations and Land Remediation Relief claims
• Liaise with HMRC and management of tax enquiries where required
• Monitoring legislative changes and advising senior finance stakeholders on potential impacts to the business
• Supporting a range of tax projects and advisory matters as they arise

Candidate Profile

We are keen to speak with qualified tax or finance professionals who combine strong technical capability with a commercial and proactive approach.

You will ideally possess:

• ICAS, ACCA, ICAEW or CTA qualification
• Strong technical tax knowledge, with a commitment to ongoing professional development
• Experience across corporate tax compliance and reporting, ideally with exposure to VAT and employment taxes
• Excellent analytical skills and an ability to interpret large volumes of financial data
• A process improvement mindset and a desire to enhance controls and efficiencies
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work across finance teams and external stakeholders
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
