Full Job Description

  • Make Technical Publications/Authoring decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.

  • Fulfil the operating, maintenance and support requirements agreed with the customer. The information must be clearly and unambiguously presented, in a manner appropriate to the level of skill, experience and technical understanding of the users and maintainers of the equipment. It thus contributes to the customer's ultimate objective of improving the success rate of maintenance, and reducing the lifecycle cost of ownership of equipment.

  • Close liaison with all aspects of engineering through the interaction with engineering personnel / interrogation of contributory engineering database. It will involve the research and origination of new and amended textual data for a wide range of equipment and maintenance activities.

  • Compile data, to a variety of national / international /civil / military specifications, and produce physical/electronic deliverables.

  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members.

  • Manage own elements of Technical Publications /Authoring work package.

  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, quality and HSE.

  • Set targets for and manage own development with line manager. Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices.

    Technical Authoring Experience

  • Strong proficiency within standard Microsoft office packages/Authoring tools

  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English

  • Engineering knowledge/experience

  • Good understanding of engineering standards and processes.

  • Ability to turn technical information into easily understood text

  • Engineering Product Lifecycle

  • Technical Authoring in an engineering environment

  • Writing in a structured environment (eg XML to S1000D, DITA)

  • This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

    To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years' residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
