About SPT
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all.
The Subway has been modernised twice in its history with the previous modernisation taking place in the late 1970s. We are currently undertaking a £288m transformational project which will result in the Subway being one of the most advanced systems in Europe. About the Role
We are seeking to recruit a Technical Craftsperson - Rolling Stock. You will carry out the fault finding, maintenance and repair of rolling stock to support the on-going delivery of the Subway maintenance and modernisation engineering activity. This is an excellent opportunity to play an important role in the efficient running of the Subway whilst developing and broadening your own technical skills and experience in line with our modernisation activity and introduction of new assets.
About You
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, capable and reliable. You will have experience as a time served craftsperson in either a recognised electrical or mechanical and electrical (Dual trained) engineering discipline supported by first-hand experience in a maintenance/mechanical environment where fault finding is critical. Safety is our first priority and so experience of working in a safety critical environment is essential. Experience in rolling stock is desirable but more important will be your positive attitude to change including personal skills development and your experience of working flexibly in a multi-disciplinary team.
As part of the selection process you will undertake mechanical comprehension testing and electrical comprehension testing.
Your good communication skills will ensure that you work well in our team and can complete updates/reports on our asset management, quality and safety systems. In addition, you will be able to plan work, operate in a changing environment and react effectively to changing demands.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working 38 hours per week on a constant night shift pattern. (Mon - Thurs).
Competence training will be undertaken on dayshifts and once deemed competent you would then move onto the nightshift team. You will be based at our Broomloan Depot in Govan, Glasgow.
As part of the selection process, you may be required to pass a medical examination that will include a test for alcohol and drugs Please note, this position falls into the high-risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and therefore is subject to random & for-cause testing procedures.
