Full Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Technical Design Leader to play a key role in driving Woods Bagot's growth in major projects. Based in Perth, this position will focus on cultivating and strengthening client and contractor relationships and delivering projects in line with our regional business objectives and hub model. Reporting to the Studio Chair and collaborating closely with the broader regional and global team, the SeniorTechnical Design Leader will be a trusted leader across multiple sectors. This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring proven expertise leading the successful management and delivery of large-scale, complex projects.,

  • Lead the technical design and delivery of large-scale and complex architectural projects from developed design through to construction ensuring they are on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Take ownership of technical quality, compliance, and coordination across all project stages.
  • Work seamlessly across sectors and disciplines, bringing adaptability and breadth of expertise.
  • Establish and maintain best-practice technical standards, processes, and documentation across projects.
  • Review and guide technical outputs to ensure consistency, buildability, and risk mitigation across the studio, contributing to driving W-B processes.
  • Work with the project team to develop designs that consider the life cycle of buildings, such as cleaning, maintenance and replacement.
  • Act as a trusted technical presence on projects, supporting client confidence through clear communication and dependable delivery.
  • Design Documentation and Technical Excellence:
  • Lead and contribute to the design and documentation of projects, ensuring technical quality and design integrity.
  • Serve as a key source of professional and technical advice within the studio, actively championing technical innovations and best-practice sustainable approaches.
  • Stay informed on relevant industry standards, legislation, and compliance requirements (e.g. BCA, DDA, Planning and Building Regulations), and lead their consistent application and communication across the studio.
  • Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Provide hands-on leadership, fostering collaboration, innovation, and high standards of practice.
  • Champion the growth of staff through ongoing guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge-sharing in technical design and delivery, promoting professional development of junior staff.
  • Ensure high-quality project delivery while contributing to a constructive and supportive studio environment.

    We are seeking a stand-out candidate with a proven record of leading the technical delivery of large-scale projects. You are a confident, hands-on leader with excellent mentoring skills, with demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and effectively coordinating between disciplines in complex projects. Your experience spans extensive client and contractor management, underpinned by a deep capability in both design and documentation. You thrive in a collaborative, creative environment and bring specialised expertise in the design and construction of complex, high-profile architectural projects., 15 to 20+ years relevant experience
  • Registered Architect with the ability to perform in a Superintendent Role
  • Technical focus
  • Diverse project background
  • Experience in the preparation of specifications, contract documents and tender packages
  • Experience in working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and effectively coordinating between disciplines in complex projects
  • Demonstrate understanding of construction and constructability, including staging and phasing of works
  • Experience of working with contractors to deliver the desired project outcome
  • Experience of contract administration and monitoring compliance with the terms of the contract
  • Capable of undertaking document reviews and guidance for various projects
  • Strong Technical knowledge of project delivery requirements
  • An understanding of the application of standards and regulations such as NCC/BCA, DDA and Australian Standards is essential
  • Ability to mentor Project Leaders
  • Revit expertise is desirable, but at a minimum the role will demonstrate a thorough understanding of Revit processes, efficiencies and workflows
  • Solid knowledge of the full Adobe Suite, collaboration software and common data environments. For example: Aconex, ACC, Revit, Bluebeam, Navisworks and other similar relevant software packages
