Full Job Description

The Town Planning team collectively provide a specialist in-house town planning service to all parts of Network Rail in Scotland. Our Town Planning Technicians play a key role in supporting the work of the team.

About the role (External)

Here are some of the duties your role will include: -

· A large part of the role involves assessing, consulting, and responding to town planning consultations for third party development near the railway to fulfil Network Rail’s function as a statutory consultee in the planning system. To do this you will work to statutory deadlines and with colleagues from across the business.

· The role also involves providing technical support to the town planning and wider property team including (but not limited to):

- Being responsible for the provision and maintenance of team data recording and input to other Property and Network Rail information and monitoring systems including GIS systems.

- Preparing and submitting statutory planning and related notifications and applications and responding to development plan consultations.

- Supporting changes required in the delivery of the Town Planning services overall strategy.

- Maintaining strong relationships with, and being responsive to the needs of, individual customers on specific projects and programmes across the range of Town Planning services.

- Maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate delivery of all Town Planning services and third-party asset protection work in particular.

· Able to read and understand plans including elevations and cross sections.

· Able to manage a varied workload in an environment where there is rarely a typical day and to set deadlines.

· Enthusiastic

· Customer focussed.

What you will bring to the role: -

· Relevant qualification

· Skilled in the use of technical administration, data management, and geographic information systems and software applications

· Good written and verbal communication skills

It’s desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role: -

· Town planning experience and/or experience of the rail industry

· Full Driving Licence

Salary: Starting at £28,000 and rising to £34,000 per annum
