Full Job Description

We are seeking a motivated individual to join Lookers Volvo Glasgow as a Service Technician Apprentice. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to become a proficient service technician in the automotive industry. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of Volvo products and services. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about mechanics, problem-solving, and providing exceptional customer service.,

  • Assist senior technicians in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Learn to perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, lubrication, and adjustments.

  • Participate in equipment installations and upgrades under supervision.

  • Develop proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues accurately.

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of service requests and projects.

  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Document service activities, including work performed, parts used, and customer interactions.

  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and product knowledge.

  • Communicate effectively with customers to address inquiries, explain service procedures, and provide recommendations.

  • Assist with inventory management, including tracking parts and supplies used during service operations.


  • Working Week:

    A standard workweek typically consists of 40 hours, scheduled from Monday to Friday, starting at 8:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm. Nevertheless, the specific working hours may vary depending on the requirements of individual Dealers.

    Approximately 20% of your total work hours will be dedicated to 'off-the-job' training. This is a mixture of online classrooms and face-to-face learning at The Volvo Training centre in Daventry.

    Your Development and Future Prospects:

    All of our Apprentices are employed through the Dealer Network and attend week-long block training at our state-of-the-art Training Centre in Daventry.

    Block training is complemented by a combination of regular coaching visits from one of our experienced Coaches as well as Virtual Classroom sessions and E-Learning modules.

    Throughout your apprenticeship journey, we are committed to nurturing your growth and development, guiding you toward attaining a widely recognized qualification in the motor industry. This qualification serves as a cornerstone for building your career, offering abundant opportunities within our expanding Dealer Network. Upon successful completion of the program, you'll be well-equipped to advance and transition into new roles.

    The Programme lasts for 24-40 months and you'll achieve a nationally recognised qualification: Level 2 Autocare (12 months)

    Level 3 Light Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (24-26 months),
  • Aged 16+

  • Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent.

  • A strong interest in learning about the service and maintenance of petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to follow instructions and learn from experienced technicians.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.

  • Working towards or in possession of a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
