36 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year, 12.5% Shift Allowance, Permanent
A base location will be fixed prior to appointment, but you will be required to travel to all five Recycling Centres as part of this role.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for recruitment within Recycling & Waste Services. We deliver a wide variety of frontline services and require a Recycling Centre Attendant to work as part of our Disposal team, to safely operate West Lothian’s Recycling Centres. Our Recycling Centres are located throughout West Lothian and are based at Blackburn, Broxburn, Linlithgow, Oakbank and Whitburn. Shift pattern: Repeats every 3 weeks, working 14 days in every 21, including 2 weekends.
Shift Allowance: The shift pattern currently attracts a 12.5% shift allowance.
Working hours: 09:53-18:06, 30-minute unpaid lunch.
The role includes:
- Enhancing the image of the Recycling Centres and continue to maintain them in a clean and tidy condition.
- Being polite, courteous, and helpful to site visitors at all times.
- Being visible, meeting and greeting site visitors to develop and sustain internal and external relationships that assist in the effective operation of the Recycling Centres.
- Providing manual assistance to customers as and when required to unload their vehicles and help them to deposit materials in the appropriate containers.
- Minimising the materials being deposited as mixed waste by helping to educate customers about separating items prior to arrival and providing information on what happens to the materials when they leave the site.
- Assisting supervisors to ensure containers are serviced efficiently and safely and in a way that minimises disruption to customers separating their waste.
- Working as a team to ensure that non-permitted waste is not accepted, business waste is identified, and the relevant paperwork completed daily.
- Operating compaction plant and equipment, carrying out routine maintenance checks and servicing.
- Being a key holder, responsible for the overall security of the site, plant, equipment, and materials.
- Undertaking such other duties and responsibilities that may be reasonably required by the service and in line with the job description of this role.
- Current valid driving licence.
