About the Role

Are you an experienced Painting & Decorating professional looking for an opportunity to use your industry knowledge to support the next generation of tradespeople?

Forth Valley College is looking for a Painting & Decorating Work-Based Assessor to join our Apprenticeships, Skills and Commercial (ASC) team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced industry professional who wants to share their knowledge and experience while continuing to maintain links with the trade. Working 14 hours per week, the role offers the opportunity to combine assessment work with other professional or industry commitments.

You will work directly with Painting & Decorating apprentices, supporting them to develop their skills, demonstrate occupational competence and successfully complete their vocational qualifications.

Reporting to the Assessment Manager for Construction, you will manage an allocated caseload of apprentices, carrying out workplace assessments, monitoring progress and working closely with employers to support successful completion.

You will contribute to assessment, verification and quality assurance activity, ensuring delivery meets Forth Valley College and Qualifications Scotland standards.

What You'll Be Doing

Assess Painting & Decorating apprentices within the workplace against the requirements of their SVQ.

Support apprentices to gather and present valid, sufficient and authentic evidence of their occupational competence.

Plan and undertake workplace visits, assessments and progress reviews.

Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help apprentices progress towards successful completion.

Maintain accurate assessment and candidate records in line with College and awarding body requirements.

Build positive working relationships with apprentices, employers and training partners.

Contribute to internal verification, standardisation and wider quality assurance activities.

Work collaboratively as part of Forth Valley College's wider Construction assessment team.

What We're Looking For

You will have current and verifiable industry experience in Painting & Decorating, together with a strong understanding of the skills and standards expected within the trade.

You should also have:

Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with apprentices and employers.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.

Confidence using IT systems to maintain assessment and candidate records.

An understanding of vocational qualifications, workplace learning and assessment.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role involves travel to apprentices' workplaces.

It Would Be Great If You Also Have

An assessor qualification such as A1, L&D9 or equivalent.

Previous experience of assessing apprentices or vocational learners.

Experience of SVQs and workplace-based assessment.

Knowledge of Qualifications Scotland requirements and quality assurance processes.
