Vehicle & Plant Mechanic
Location: Abercromby Workshop, Abercromby Depot, Castle Douglas, DG7 1LH
Hours: 36 hours per week, with optional overtime
Pay: Time and a half for regular overtime, double time for unsociable hours

Dumfries and Galloway Council is seeking a skilled Vehicle & Plant Mechanic to support its vehicle maintenance operations at our Abercromby workshop in Castle Douglas. You'll be part of a professional, well-organised team working in a modern, fully equipped facility.

Your Role You’ll be responsible for maintaining the Council’s wide-ranging fleet, which includes:

Small plant equipment
Trailers
HGVs and buses
Minibuses, vans, and cars
Specialist vehicles used in front-line operations

Tasks will include scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, test preparation, and repairs in line with Transport and Health & Safety legislation. There is also potential to train as a Class IV, V, and VII MOT tester.

Additional Requirements

Flexibility to support overtime and participate in a standby rota as needed
Full driving licence is essential
LGV/PSV licence is desirable
