Nuclear Safety Industrial Placement - Dunbar, UK About the Role

At EDF, Success is Personal. That means your journey is unique to you. Join our Nuclear Safety Group Industrial Placement and you'll gain hands-on experience, develop key skills, and help Britain achieve net zero all while shaping a career that's truly yours.

Electricity is such a vital component in everyone's lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling. Priyanka, Science and Engineering Industrial Placement.

The Opportunity

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £26,050 and the chance to work on site at #Torness Power Station.

You'll be part of a team that plays a vital role in ensuring safe reactor operations and compliance with nuclear safety cases. You'll be supported by experts who'll help you grow and get stuck into real-world challenges.

What You'll Experience

During your Nuclear Safety Group Industrial Placement, you'll support the daily operations of our Nuclear Safety Team. Past students have contributed to safety case reviews, supported compliance assessments, and worked on initiatives that ensure safe and reliable generation.

You'll be immersed in the world of nuclear safety, learning from experts and applying your skills to meaningful challenges. This placement offers a rich learning experience and a chance to make a real impact in a critical area of the energy industry.

Your Work Location

You'll be based on site at our #Torness Power Station in Scotland (EH42), where you'll work on site and connect with colleagues across the business.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this scheme, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant field (maths, physics, or other science/engineering disciplines).

It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least £26,050 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customizable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal — it's your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we're committed to creating an accessible recruitment process and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need. Should you disclose a disability and meet the minimum criteria (which will include holding a relevant degree discipline/grade and achieving the required pass mark for Stage 1 Testing) for the role you'll be progressed to the first stage of the selection process. Some of our roles at EDF attract large volumes of applications. When this happens, we'll apply the Disability Confident schemes guidance on taking practical and appropriate steps in selecting disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job.

Our Recruitment Process

We'll guide you through every stage and keep you updated along the way. You'll be supported by real people, with opportunities to ask questions, learn more, and receive feedback where possible.

For our Early Careers Programmes, we use a combination of automated decision-making, assessment technology, and human review.
