At EDF, Success is Personal. That means your journey is unique to you. Join as our Nuclear Engineering Industrial Placement on electrical mechanical systems with the Fuel Route Dept and you'll gain hands-on experience, develop key skills, and help Britain achieve net zero all while shaping a career that's truly yours.

"Electricity is such a vital component in everyone's lives. It powers schools, businesses, and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling. Priyanka, Science and Engineering Industrial Placement.

The Opportunity

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of 26,050 and the chance to work on site at Torness Power Station.

You'll launch your career in Nuclear Engineering with our customised training programme. Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience while being mentored by highly skilled professionals.

You'll help shape equipment reliability of a particular plant area, learn engineering and safety case principles in order to do work on a Nuclear Power Plant. You'll also gain experience in team working, problem solving, and using human performance tools, with opportunities to work on plant operations and explore other areas of interest.

What You'll Experience

During your Nuclear Engineering, you'll gain in-depth experience within a multi-discipline team and work with electrical, mechanical, control and instrumentation engineers. You'll learn about systems vital to the smooth operation of plant systems onsite, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies, and technical knowledge.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to see how other departments within the power station function, expanding your understanding of the broader industry.

Past students have worked on projects improving safety systems, performed routine monitoring of plant, and worked on equipment reliability issues and maintenance policies to improve the overall functionality of the plant areas.

Your Work Location

You'll be based on site at our power station situated at Torness Power Station, Scotland.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this scheme, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Control & Instrumentation.

It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least 26,050 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customizable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal—it's your journey, powered by us.

As a Disability Confident employer, we're committed to creating an accessible recruitment process and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need. Should you disclose a disability and meet the minimum criteria (which will include holding a relevant degree discipline/grade and achieving the required pass mark for Stage 1 Testing) for the role, you'll be progressed to the first stage of the selection process. Some of our roles at EDF attract large volumes of applications. When this happens, we'll apply the Disability Confident schemes guidance on taking practical and appropriate steps in selecting disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job.

Our Recruitment Process

We'll guide you through every stage and keep you updated along the way. You'll be supported by real people, with opportunities to ask questions, learn more, and receive feedback where possible.

For our Early Careers Programmes, we use a combination of automated decision-making, assessment technology, and human review.
