Location: Dundee, Scotland

We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join our team of software engineers based at the NCR Discovery Centre R&D site in Dundee. You will be responsible for delivering high quality software for ATM’s. Using your experience and knowledge you will make significant contributions to our projects and be a great mentor for other team members to learn from.

You will be working within a medium sized team to develop our Currency Template software. Our Currency Template software leverages an array of detailed data captured by our bill validator sensors embedded within our ATM’s. The Template software then verifies the deposited media to determine several characteristics including if it is genuine or counterfeit currency.  Key steps in the template software development involve analysis of note image attributes for image authentication, design & implementation of functions to detect/validate image attributes, simulation testing and test on target hardware. The Template software is developed for several different devices using in-house tool sets with the addition of some C++.

The successful candidate will be part of an engineering group with development teams in global locations. As a senior software engineer in the team, you will be responsible for working multiple development projects simultaneously, investigating & resolving complex problems, provide mentoring and support to other developers while working closely with project management to ensure customer commitments and goals are met.

Occasional travel for onsite support may be required.

Due to the unique development environment and knowledge required for this role, full training will be given to the successful candidate to acquire the appropriate skill set.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Develop high quality software which meet customer requirements, within agreed timescales
• Ability to manage multiple issues of differing stages within development and priority with little supervision
• Analyse and process data then identify and develop solutions
• Prepare technical documentation
• Participate in template update peer reviews
• Accurately estimate time and resources for template development efforts
• Maintain ownership of developments
• Mentoring of new team members and provides support / guidance for more junior SW Engineers around more complex problem resolution
• Communicate across all levels of the Template team (Management, Project Managers, QA and developers)
• Participates in discussions with other senior developers, management and suppliers to ensure development add value & meet requirements
• Work all developments diligently to ensure customer satisfaction targets are achieved
• Assist team for solving problems, working to drive improvement in their own work

Required skills & experience:

• Minimum Bachelors Level Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years’ experience in software development, preferably C / C++
• Good methodical problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment composed of peers and cross-functional members
• Have a strong desire for quality
• Have a sense of urgency with the ability to multi-task
• Mentoring less experienced team members

The following would be considered an advantage though not essential

• Use of Jira & Git version control system 
• Experience in Currency Template development or Currency Automation Industry with use of currency automation tools
• Cash recycling device hardware experience
