Full Job Description

The post holder is responsible for the operational management and coordination of safe and effective complex patient flow process in the CTR department whilst delivering safe clinical practice and the national access targets for waiting times.

The purpose of the post is to co-ordinate and maximise bed usage within the CTR wards at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Ensure safe and effective movement of patients from the Accident and Emergency to CTR wards and direct admissions via their GP or from another hospital and to assist clinical staff in the co-ordination of information on delayed discharge patients and patients boarding out with the CTR wards.

The post has a critical role in placing emergency patients, facilitating patient discharges from CCU and Critcare and liaising on patient placement from other ward areas.

  • Coordinate all emergency admissions
  • Ensure seamless patient journey
  • Provide management of inpatient coordination, including liaison with other disciplines and agencies.
  • Provide specialist knowledge/expertise and clinical decision making skills to assist 

 NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
