Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide administrative support to Edward Mountain MSP, working from his office in Inverness.

You will provide full administrative support including drafting documents, filing, taking enquiries from constituents and stakeholders, replying to routine correspondence and providing support for meetings and surgeries.

MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the MSP's parliamentary work, including communications via e-mail, letter and phone and providing support for meetings.

  • Drafting letters and other documents, as required.

  • Sorting incoming mail into priority order and prepare draft replies to routine correspondence.

  • Make travel arrangements and organise surgeries.

  • Taking enquiries from constituents and stakeholders where appropriate.

  • Maintaining a filing system, associating previous papers with current correspondence, and extracting documents on request.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.

  • Assisting in preparing for visits, events, questions and motions.

  • Extracting and compiling papers and briefing notes for meetings.

  • General administrative duties as required.

  • Represent Edward Mountain MSP in a professional and effective manner when dealing with all external organisations and constituents.

  • Travel within the Highlands and Islands Region may be required.

    To succeed in this role, you should evidence the following in your application:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organisational/administrative and IT skills with good attention to detail.

  • Able to build effective relationships and demonstrate good communication skills.

  • A flexible and adaptable approach with good initiative.

  • A firm knowledge of current Scottish politics at all levels and the Scottish Parliamentary system would be beneficial

  • Knowledge of local constituency/regional issues across the Highlands and Islands community with the ability to maintain and build on this knowledge.

  • The ability to work well within a small team and independently, and to respond flexibly and creatively to a range of requests.

  • Holding a current and valid full UK driving license would be advantageous
