Full Job Description

Base Location: Glasgow

Salary: up to £56,000 plus shift allowance and a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: 24 Hour shift pattern

To deliver 24/7 commercial and operational monitoring, and oversight of generation assets including solar, batteries, CHP's, Gas Peakers on behalf of the Digital Services control room.

The fundamentals of the role include:

  • Monitoring of solar and battery assets ensuring they are meeting set generation targets and commercial commitments.

  • Ensuring asset capabilities are accurately reflected via dynamic declarations at all times.

  • Fault monitoring and remote rectification of generation assets where appropriate agreed processes are in place.

  • Triaging faults, tracking and co-ordinating an effective response with appropriate operational teams ensuring KPI's are met.

  • Ensuring planned and unplanned outages are effectively carried out during the shift minimising downtime and commercial losses.

  • Effective communication with all stakeholders on asset availability and performance

  • Providing application support to other business areas as a frontline response., + Adhere to and operate within department 24-hour shift rota, provide cover for sickness and holiday periods where possible. Inform Team Leader of any risk of unattendance (holiday and sickness) to allow for resource planning when absent.

  • + Responsible for monitoring generation assets ensuring all assets are meeting their generation targets and fulfilling commercial commitments. Where unplanned outages occur to respond quickly and effectively to minimise any potential losses and unnecessary downtime. Documenting all work activities and actions throughout the shift and complete an effective and detailed handover to your shift colleagues.
    + Ensure compliance with all of SSE's internal processes and governance, submission of regulatory declarations meeting appropriate deadlines.
    + Responsible for ensuring generation assets are maintaining balance with PN (physical notification) by reacting to time sensitive instructions BOA's (Bid Offer Acceptance) and ensuring accurate declaration all Asset Dynamics in real time to the National Grid for all monitored BMU's
    + Responsible for the effective triaging of faults from monitored assets, ensuring where faults are triaged it is done swiftly and in line with the documented procedure. Co-ordinate and track faults that have been triaged and ensure all stakeholders are informed of event, status and rectifications are documented to aid lessons learned

  • Suitable industry experience and/or Qualification in Higher Education to standard equivalent to that gained through time served apprenticeship with a period of implementation in industry (e.g. HND, HNC+ Experience) preferably in a technical discipline, or that with closely related transferrable skills

  • Experienced in a control room environment preferably with an electrical bias or relevant industry experience.

  • Experienced in following SSOW Safe Systems of Work, process management and fault triaging

  • An understanding of Energy market conditions affecting asset operations and impacting on Balancing Mechanism Units (BMU's) and associated regulations

  • Knowledge of solar or battery technology preferred, although not essential as training will be provided
