We have a great opportunity for a Legal Manager with a focus on property, planning, and consents to join our well-established SSEN Transmission Legal Team.

Our SSEN Transmission Legal Team plays a vital role in supporting the SSEN Transmission business which owns and operates the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland. We ensure a safe and reliable supply of electricity to communities, all while championing the transition to a low carbon future - developing, building, maintaining, and operating a network for net zero.

Right now, we're at a pivotal moment in our journey. With ambitious plans to maintain and grow our transmission network in the north of Scotland, we need someone like you to guide our project teams through the complex landscape of property, planning, and consenting for our infrastructure projects.

You'll provide high-quality, pragmatic legal support across new and existing projects. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and you'll work closely with teams in planning, environment, marine, land, regulation, project delivery, asset management, and operations to achieve their goals and objectives.,

• Providing proactive and pragmatic guidance on a range of legal, consenting, regulatory and operational issues, ensuring legal risks are understood and managed.


• Mentoring and guiding junior team members, fostering their professional growth.


• Driving key projects crucial to achieving SSE's strategic objectives through collaboration with the legal team and wider business.


• Advising on nationwide consultations, engaging with key stakeholders, and providing insights on policy proposals impacting the sector. You'll also work with SSE's external legal panel firms as required.


• Leading by example, assisting in managing the team's workload, and leveraging your expertise to support the professional development of your colleagues.

• Qualification in Scotland as a solicitor with significant, relevant PQE.


• Proven experience in successfully consenting large-scale projects, along with knowledge of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, an awareness of environmental challenges, and familiarity with the consenting regime for electricity developments in Scotland.


• Experience in the supervision or management of lawyers or paralegals and/or have the desire and commitment to further the learning and development of others.


• Good negotiation, drafting, communication and interpersonal skills and a desire to work in-house as part of a key business support function are essential.


• An ability to build strong working relations with clients, stakeholders, external Legal Counsel, and the wider SSE Legal team.
