Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Bank Staff Nurse based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

With supervision and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, the nurse will as a member of the nursing team be accountable for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for a defined caseload of patients working within the professional standards held in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring safe working practices of his / herself and others and working within their own recognised Scope of Practice. According to agreed competencies the bank nurse may carry out this work in hospital and / or community settings.

The nurse will work with the shift leader within the ward or department guided by local and national protocols, procedures and guidelines, making decisions based on best practice evidence and assist in monitoring the work of the nursing team and supporting colleagues to provide safe and effective nursing care.

Occasionally the nurse will supervise and advise junior registered and non-registered staff and may have justification to contribute to the development of teaching and learning programs within the ward or department.

Where appropriate, take opportunities available to undertake further education and develop interests to support and benefit the ward or department. There should be an understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, which require a base level of theoretical knowledge. This is normally acquired through formal training or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

Registered General Nurse (RGN Level 1) or RN with a current NMC registration

Team-working skills and the ability to work using own initiative.

Effective communication and time management skills.

Working knowledge of wards or departments and organisational policies and procedures.

As per NMC guidelines, the ability to keep relevant skills / knowledge updated and documented.

A commitment to lifelong learning and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional development.
