Full Job Description

Ayrshire College is seeking to recruit new members to its Board of Management. You may never have considered a Board position before; however, your experience may be invaluable! Many of us underestimate how much we have to offer, so even if you are not 100% sure, please contact us to discuss the role of the Board Member and what contribution you could offer.

Our ambition for Ayrshire College is that it will continue to be an inspirational place of learning where individuals can excel and realise their full potential. A place where businesses and communities can access skills, expertise and innovation that supports local and national economic development and inclusive growth. This is achieved through strong collaboration and partnership working, and by investing in, and valuing, our staff and students.

The Board of Management has a pivotal role in achieving our ambition. As a Member of the Board, you will be committed to a public service role, provide leadership and strategic direction, demonstrate excellence in corporate governance, and inspire staff to deliver the highest standards of learning and teaching. The Board also has a crucial role in engaging with key stakeholders, businesses, and employers in Ayrshire and beyond. Board Members act as public ambassadors and advocates for the College, valuing and respecting diversity and promoting an ethos of inclusion, equality, and positive well-being.

At a key time of change within the college sector, this rewarding role provides you with the opportunity to influence decision making in the further education sector that can be life-changing to our students in achieving their aspirations through skills and career development, whilst also supporting and making a difference to the wider Ayrshire community and its economy.

Applications are encouraged from individuals representing all aspects of the communities of Ayrshire; therefore, applications are welcomed from local businesses people and those who are currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies at Board level, in particular women, those with a disability and individuals from ethnic minority groups.

Applications are invited from individuals with experience of key local economy sectors with specific skills in Accountancy, Audit and Financial Management, Risk Management, Transformational/Change Management and Human Resource Management.

The essential criterion, however, is for you to have an appropriate level of commitment, knowledge

and experience to add value to the deliberations and strategic work of the Board of Management.

The time commitment is approximately 15 days or 105 hours per year, with meetings being held mainly in the afternoon/early evenings and including time for reading meeting papers and self-development. The appointment term would normally be up to four years. There is no remuneration for the post, however reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

There will be a presentation and Q&A session with some of our existing College Board Members, held on the evening of Tuesday 16th April at 5pm via Microsoft Teams. Should you be interested in joining the Board of Management, and wish to better understand the role and commitment, please visit the website and register to attend.

If you wish to discuss the role of the Board Member further, please contact Board Office staff via email.

It is the intention that following the Closing Date of 1st May, interviews will be held on Tuesday 21 May 2024.

The interview and candidate assessment process may include an event at which applicants have the opportunity to informally meet with existing College Board members, students and staff, including the Senior Leadership Team.
