Full Job Description

The NSTA seeks a Senior Business Analyst to provide business analysis services to Directorates within the NSTA. The focus of this position is to work closely with NSTA staff to gain in-depth understanding of business priorities and requirements for new or continuous improvements, IT business applications across the NSTA Digital Energy Platform including workflows, services, roadmaps and the context in which directorates operate. This role will be key to understanding and documenting capabilities needed to address business challenges.,

  • Capture new demands and requirements from business stakeholders for digital solutions. Define objectives, benefits and costs, scope, secure business support and funding, and initiate projects accordingly.

  • Formally document new directorate business requirements and enhancements including business cases for change

  • Work with staff and third parties to deliver high quality, effective digital & data solutions, in collaboration with other disciplines as required.

  • Conducts business workflow mapping and improvement activities to contribute towards NSTA Regulatory Excellence

  • Carry out project management of service requests and smaller projects under the remit of the Chief Digital and Information Officer

  • Communicate effectively with all key stakeholders. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders. Establish credibility by demonstrating an understanding of the core strategic and operational priorities for the organisation that require Digital, Data or IT support and development

  • Build and maintain a strong understanding of NSTA organisational responsibilities and workflows. Make sure appropriate information and data assets, applications and tools are available and maintained to support these workflows effectively and are formally documented

  • Assisting programme and project managers on larger more complex projects, in particular the multi-year programme of work to modernise the UK Energy Portal

  • Work with stakeholders to identify areas for potential enhancement and associated priorities

  • Adhere to the NSTA change management, project delivery, data protection and security policies and procedures.

  • Horizon scan and evaluate new technologies that may be deployed within the organisation to help fulfil NSTA requirements

    The NSTA Senior Business Analyst will engage with NSTA staff to understand and document new IT, data and digital demands and enhancements. They will work with staff and third parties to deliver quality digital and data solutions. The role requires excellent communication, business analysis, workflow modelling, and formal documentation skills. The successful applicant will be able to evidence a strong track record of specifying and delivering quality digital and data solutions and using those to drive business efficiency., Competence 1: Innovation, Initiative and Agility

    Specialist Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Licenses, Memberships or Language

    Essential:
  • Excellent business analysis and technical analysis skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business or information systems related subject (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong track record as a business analyst or similar role delivering quality solutions

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills - written and oral

  • Ability to quickly understand complex IT systems, processes and data models

  • Ability to influence others and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Desirable:
  • Oil and gas experience

  • Public sector experience

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and the data needed to discharge them.

  • Agile way of working

  • Project Management

  • Programme/Project management office experience

  • Demonstratable working knowledge of the Microsoft Power platform (e.g. Power Automate), GIS, BI tools, scripting, or database modelling

  • Practical digital skills with the ability to build basic prototype dashboards or maps

  • Demonstratable working knowledge of BPMN process mapping
