Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, flexible, team player to work as relief/bank Catering Assistant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all activities in the kitchen. This will include the preparation of meals, ordering of supplies and health and safety within the kitchen.

The applicant must have previous experience of preparing and cooking meals in a commercial kitchen with particular sensitivity to the dietary needs of older people. They should also hold the REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate and have an understanding of Health & Safety legislation and Generic Risk Assessments relating to the kitchen.

 In order to be able to carry out the duties of this post effectively and safely, candidates will be able to provide evidence of a good basic education, good written communication and report writing skills.

This is a relief post, on an as and when required basis. Applicants should have experience in working with people in a care setting and the ability to undertake any relevant training.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
