The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

OUR VALUES IN ACTION

Care and Compassion Quality and Teamwork Dignity and Respect Openness, honesty and responsibility

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hiring Manager.

Applications are invited for a Permanent Band 6 Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department at Borders General Hospital, working at 34.1 hrs per week. This role is working within a small team of other Band 6 Charge Nurses and a Senior Charge Nurse. Experience in Emergency Nursing is essential, with post registration experience within an Emergency Department or at Charge Nurse Level with transferable skills would also be advantageous. The role involves being the senior nursing decision maker on shift and leading the team. A key role is supporting and developing the Registered Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers in the department and deputising for the Senior Charge Nurse when required. The Department is part of the Scottish Trauma Network being the first port of call for stabilisation for the South of Scotland escalating care to either Edinburgh Major Trauma Centre or to Newcastle. We also receive all speciality groups including paediatrics. This is a busy, fast paced environment with an unpredictable workload so being able to adapt at fast pace is vital. The Department receives anything from 80 to over 100 patients per day, roughly 30,000 attendees per year. The successful candidate would be required to work a day/night rotation pattern including weekends.
