NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is rotational, days, nights and weekends.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within ward 5 at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a highly motivated Deputy Charge Nurse to provide leadership and ensure high quality, safe, effective, person-centred care in our Diabetes/General Medical ward.

You will be expected to deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse in their absence and lead the nursing team and coordinate and direct the care. As Deputy Charge Nurse you will provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient's needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care which are evidence based. A high degree of clinical expertise will be evident with the ability to work to high quality clinical standards. We are looking for an individual who has the ability to evidence leadership experience within a team and possess a desire to contribute to the development of the service.

You are required to be flexible, forward thinking and able to work effectively within a changing and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and sound decision making skills be able to promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment.

You will support the Senior Charge Nurse in the recruitment, supervision, development and deployment of unit staff and ensure appropriate learning opportunities are available for all staff; encouraging best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times in line with NHSGGC Care Assurance Standards.

The post holder will contribute to the rotational Senior Nurse Medicine cover rota out of hours.

To be considered for this post you will be a Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration, educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level and have post graduate expertise within specialty / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safely, effectively and efficiently. You will demonstrate that you have effective leadership, communication and organisational skills. You will possess substantial experience at band 5 level within a ward setting.
