Full Job Description

Reporting to the Quayside Operations Manager, this role will co-ordinate and control the safe and efficient loading/offloading of vessels, in accordance with Operations/Shipping plans and in line with all procedures and regulations. This role has a shift working pattern of 7 days on/7 days off. The following duties will be undertaken:

  • Expedite material and utilise transport to ensure vessels are turned around in accordance with Operations/Shipping plans.


  • Conduct 360 degrees visual inspections to identify damage / overloading / PDO's / test certification / DG labelling and accuracy of CCU ID prior to dispatch. Liaise with Chargehand regarding any non-conforming cargo.


  • Inspection of lifting equipment prior to use.


  • Ensure weigh load indicator is working correctly and report malfunctions.


  • Ensure effective use of resources, primarily trucks to reduce double handling.


  • Resolve material shipping discrepancies through communication with the shipping team.


  • Liaise with Quayside Supervisor, communicating any problems/delays with cargo operations.


  • Obtain discharge/loading plan for vessel.


  • Ensure accurate weights/lift counts are recorded for all cargo loaded/discharged.


  • Ensure discharge/load forms/information on iLMS are correct and accurately report discrepancies, delays and non-conformances.


  • Undertake yard and gantry inspection tasks, or other adhoc duties, as required.


  • Allocate quayside functions.


  • Regularly review procedures, work aids and risk assessments.


  • Conduct and record Live Safe Interventions (LSI). Attend and contribute to safety meetings


  • Ensure the correct use of Forklifts and Lifting equipment as set out in legislative and procedural policy.

  • Numerate and computer literate with well-developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite.

    A current Immigration Status Document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK, and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person's permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer
    An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office stating that the holder is permitted to take the employment in question
