Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Over recent years NHS Tayside has committed to increased investment in the Area Psychological Therapies Service. The Service now has a complement of around 180 clinical and applied staff with an additional 18 trainees.  Opportunity exists to combine a number of specialist posts to reflect career interests of suitable applicants. The Department provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. Opportunities exist for involvement in teaching and research, taking advantage of close links with Universities of Dundee and Stirling. Members of the Department also contribute to the supervision and training of trainees on the Edinburgh/East and South of Scotland Clinical Teaching Course, the Universities of Stirling and Dundee MSc Course and the Child course.

This post is suitable for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with a special interest in working with patients who have a neurological condition. The post holder will deliver therapeutic interventions with this population group. This post will be based in the Neuropsychology service in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.  This service accepts referrals for both acute inpatients and outpatients from across the Tayside region and provides neuropsychological assessment & intervention for individuals who are known to have, or are suspected to have acquired damage to the brain, largely as a result of disease, trauma or ageing.  Referrals come from a wide variety of sources including Neurosciences, General Medicine, Psychiatry and General Practice.

The post-holder will be part of the wider NHS Tayside Clinical Neuropsychology Service which employs staff with a diverse range of clinical and research interests.  As such, there are excellent opportunities for CPD, research and involvement in ongoing service development, all of which are strongly encouraged.  Clinical and management supervision for this post will be provided by a Clinical Neuropsychologist.

The successful candidate must be able to work within multidisciplinary settings.

Informal enquires considering the above post may be made to  Dr Alison Livingstone on or alison.livingstone2@nhs.scot or Linda Graham, Director of Psychology on or Linda.Graham@nhs.scot

Full time/Part time/job share hours will be considered.

Short-listed applicants will be contacted by email.   Please check your emails regularly, including your junk/spam folder.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
