Full Job Description

This role is part of our Chief Digital Office (CDO) division, which is responsible for providing the infrastructure, capabilities, and digital solutions that will support Social Security Scotland.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering and Cloud service team within CDO, focusing on maintaining and delivering our AWS hosting platform. You will have frequent interactions with colleagues in the CDO Architecture team, Cyber Security Team, Applications Development teams, and various suppliers involved in providing the Division's software and infrastructure.

DDaT Pay Supplement

This post attracts a £5000 Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review. This post is part of the Scottish Government DDaT profession. As a member of the profession you will join the professional development system, currently BCS RoleModelplus.

Main Duties

  • Maintain secure configurations and accurate information, controlling IT assets in significant areas.

  • Verify the location and state of assets and manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.

  • Analyse and assess impact, develop and document change requests, and implement changes based on requests for change.

  • Demonstrate awareness of scripting tools and software in use and identify process optimisation opportunities with guidance.

  • Diagnose and prioritise incidents, investigate their causes, and own an issue until a new owner is found or the problem is mitigated or resolved.

  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, consulting specialists where required and determining appropriate remedies and preventative measures.

  • Establish coherent frameworks that work, utilising management system software and tools to investigate problems, collect performance statistics, and create reports.

  • Carry out routine configuration, installation, and reconfiguration of database and related products, optimising performance and forecasting resource needs.

  • Review requirements and specifications, define test conditions, identify issues and risks associated with work, and analyse and report test activities and results.

  • Engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence, understand and define research that fits user needs, and use data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.

  • Due to the nature of this role some out of hours working may be required and can take place on site.
