Audrey Nicoll MSP (Aberdeen South and North Kincardine) is looking for a Communications & Policy Advisor to join her team., MSPs are employers in their own right. In this role, you will become part of a team supporting Audrey Nicoll MSP in carrying out her duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment helping the MSP communicate effectively to constituents.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about politics, outgoing and ready to make connections. You will be asked to provide compelling communications on a wide variety of topics. You will be ready for the challenge to quickly and effectively research matters to ensure the most accurate information.

The successful candidate will be well versed in social media platforms and content generation. You will be keen to reach out to journalist and local publications to promote the work Audrey Nicoll MSP undertakes on behalf of her constituents. The role would fit a proactive individual who is able to balance their own workload and seek for opportunities to expand the MSPs recognition.

The schedule for this position is flexible and can be tailored to the commitments of the successful candidate, but would require some of the hours to be undertaken on Friday mornings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy, which will include:

  • + Promoting the Member's parliamentary work via broadcast, print and social media
    + Build relations with journalist
    + Drafting press materials
    + Manage provision of communications/press advice
  • Policy & Research

  • + Carry out research into local, regional, national and international issues as required
    + Brief the Member on relevant issues
    + Produce high quality written materials
  • Maintaining office records and compliance with data protection.


  • Ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements.

  • Ensuring administrative and secretarial support is provided.

    Have an interest in political communications

  • Have a thorough understanding of various social media platforms and content generation

  • Have excellent written, verbal and IT skills with accurate attention to detail.

  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement and work on own initiative.

  • Be well organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.

  • Be comfortable being in a front facing role explaining regulations such as GDPR to the general public., Have a degree in communications or equivalent experience

  • Be able to use graphic design tools, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.
