The University is looking to appoint an additional Conference & Events Office to support the ongoing delivery and development of its highly successful commercial conferencing and events enterprise.

The Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) is the University’s flagship research facility, opened by HM The Queen in July 2015. TIC is home to £11m of dedicated, flexible conferencing facilities, and has quickly established itself as one the country’s most popular venues for business events and academic meetings, hosting more than 600 events and 42,000 delegates in academic year 2022/23 alone. The venue won the Bronze award for UK Best Academic Venue at the Meetings & Incentive Travel awards magazine in March 2019; was named Best Academic Venue  at the CHS Awards in June 2019; Best Scottish Venue & Events Team at the E Awards in 2023 and is a proud holder of Green Tourism Gold accreditation.

The Conference and Events Officer is key to the success of a sustainable and profitable commercial conferencing business. Taking over accounts from Business Development at the point of contract, the Officer works closely with clients to gain a proper understanding of their requirements, puts in place detailed arrangements for their event, and is on-site for the duration of the event itself. Some events may be very large and/or complex, and they may be hosted on campus and/or online. The post-holder will be required to draw on their experience and initiative, as well as being knowledgeable and confident about the client’s requirements, the facilities available on-campus and the functionality of our online event platform.

The Officer line manages and is supported by a Conference Operations team on a day-to-day basis, and is responsible for co-ordinating the input required from other operational teams to support the business, e.g. TIC Operations, Catering, Information Services, Estates Services.

The Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring systems and processes which effectively support customer-focused event delivery of the highest quality, both in the venue and online, in line with TIC’s ambition to be a world-class research and knowledge exchange facility.

In addition, the post-holder works with the Business Development team, the Conference Operations Manager, the Conference Services Manager and the Head of Conferencing and Events on the continuous improvement and operational and strategic development of the conferencing product at Strathclyde, to ensure that it remains fresh, profitable and relevant in the business tourism marketplace.

Formal interviews for this post will be held on 17 May 2024.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Nicola Hyne, Conference Operations Manager (Nicola.hyne @ strath.ac.uk).
