Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiology Consultant Team within Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The appointee will provide consultant leadership as part of a committed senior medical team in Cardiology of 3 full time consultants with additional rotational consultant input from the Golden Jubilee National Hospital (GJNH) and a Cardiology specialty doctor.

This post has been developed with the GJNH and includes 2 cardiac Imaging (CTCA/CMRI to be agreed with successful candidate) sessions per week based at GJNH.  In line with the regional imaging strategy, it is expected that a CTCA service will be developed on the Inverclyde site in due course.

Participation in the Cardiology Clyde out of hours cardiology rota on a 1:8 basis is required.

The job plan also includes continuing care ward cover (J South), CCU cover, ward referrals, supervision of outpatient investigations and day case procedures including echocardiography, transoesophageal echo and DC cardioversion.  Permanent pacemaker and loop recorder implantation is performed on site and, although not required, the successful applicant would be able to participate in the service, according to their subspecialty interests.

There is an ongoing interest within the department for support of junior doctors and supervision of a Clinical Fellow with an interest in Echocardiography. Many of the consultants have experience in support and induction of international graduate colleagues into the NHS and welcoming them to our hospital.

There is an established Heart Failure Liaison service and plans to develop an ambulatory heart failure pathway for the area. In addition, we have appointed  and developed  the role of Cardiology ANPs across Clyde

Suggested job plan

This job plan is negotiable with a view to supporting interests and helping the individual achieve their potential. It will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Director.  Inverclyde Royal Hospital would initially offer new appointments to the consultant team 10 PAs, of which 8 are direct clinical care and 2 SPA. The precise allocation of SPA time and associated objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant and will be reviewed at annual job planning. EPAs for additional activities of interest may be available.
