OUR VALUES IN ACTION

Care and Compassion Quality and Teamwork Dignity and Respect Openness, Honesty and Responsibility

Why work for us?

Patients are at the centre of everything we do in our daily working lives at NHS Borders ensuring they are safe, cared for efficiently, effectively by suitably experienced and qualified staff driving quality at the heart of patient care. We are a dynamic and forward thinking team with a wealth of clinical and leadership experience.  We aim for an open and honest culture and believe in nurturing future stars in NHS.

Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh.

The Role

The new Consultant Radiologist will join our friendly team of 8 radiologists serving a population of 120,000 and currently performing in excess of 75,000 investigations per year. A purpose built CT/MR unit has a recently installed Siemens Xcite 128 slice CT scanner (Sep 2023) and recently installed Siemens Sola 1.5T MR scanner (Oct 2021). A Siemens Intevo SPECT CT scanner with 16 slice CT was installed in June 2017. The hospital has a fully operational RIS/PACS system with soft copy reporting at radiologists work stations using integrated voice recognition software. Scotland has a fully operational national PACS system.

The department supports radiographers performing and reporting most ultrasound and GI examinations and skeletal plain film reporting.

The department offers opportunities for plain film reporting, ultrasound, CT and MRI, as well as dedicated sessions for specialist interests. Image guided biopsy and drainage procedures are regularly performed for all clinical services.

The hospital provides all the typical services of an acute District General Hospital and the radiology department performs all of the typical emergency and elective imaging tests for these services.

On-call commitment will be 1 in 8 with prospective cover, with teleradiology links to consultants homes. The on call service is delivered by our consultants with no trainee cover. Currently overnight emergency on call CT cover is outsourced to the private sector from 2300-0800 hours. The department is currently looking at options for bringing forward the time of handover of this on call cover.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council in the Specialist Register for Radiology before taking up the post or be within 6 months of expected date of obtaining CCT.

We welcome informal discussions and visits, please contact Dr Luis Ferrando, Lead Radiologist on .

Interview Date:- 31 May 2024
