Full Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a data returns officer for our public sector client based in the central belt of Scotland, this is an excellent opportunity to join a fast growing team in an exciting organisation.

- Up to 35,000

- Primarily remote role (1/2 Days on site a month)

- 36 Days Annual Leave

Job Description

  • To extract, analyse and report on student/staff data. Reports may be oral or written and will generally be of a complex nature.
  • Working under the direction of the Manager to identify data quality issues in consultation with Schools and Directorates and create solutions which can be used or adopted across the institution.
  • Undertake data validation checks in advance of submitting returns; to ensure that data is recorded in line with the external requirements of returns and validation issues are satisfactorily resolved.
  • To prepare data reports in response to Freedom of Information requests and other data protection matters in consultation with the University's Information Compliance Officer.
  • Working with the University's Information Compliance Officer to identify related data needs of external organisations (e.g. local councils, government bodies etc) and provide appropriate data reports at agreed times.
  • Working with the Returns and Reporting Officer and the University's Information Compliance Officer to support the identification and development of a suite of data transfer or data sharing agreements which relate to the data reporting provided by Registry / Human Resources.
  • To assist the Student Records, Fees & Module Assessment Manager in Registry / the Human Resources Manager for Strategic Projects in Human Resources in ensuring that static data is maintained in the student record system / Human Resources record system. This includes course, programme and route records in the student system and the organisational structure in our staff system.
  • To implement protocols and accepted practices in relation to the student/staff management system to ensure it is accurate and in accordance with the University's internal and external reporting requirements.
  • To assist the Returns and Reporting Officer in liaising with School Administration Leads and other directorates e.g. Registry, Human Resources, Admissions & Student Recruitment, to implement agreed University policy in relation to student/staff data.
  • To give guidance to School based staff on the protocols and practices in relation to data capture for the student/staff management system
  • To ensure that the student/staff record is accurate and responsive to external data returns e.g. HESA, SFC, Research Councils, etc.
  • To assist the Returns and Reporting Officer with the production of the University's student/staff returns to Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC)
  • To develop processes and procedures, and associated training materials for the student /staff management system in relation to extracting data
  • To help roll out training programmes in the use of the Student / Staff Management System and in particular raise awareness and ensure a broad understanding of the data, the need for accuracy when recording data and data uses
  • To recommend changes or improvements in the management of the student/staff record data.
  • From time to time, represent Strategic Intelligence at institutional level committees
  • When appropriate, to represent the Returns and Reporting Officer at external conferences, committees and working groups and provide advice and feedback in such instances.
