Full Job Description

The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.

East Lothian Council seek to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking individual for the position of DHT Pupil Support at Rosehill High School. The building opened in August 2023 and currently has around 340 S1-S3 learners. The school is growing at a rapid pace. From August 2024, we look forward to both beginning our senior phase and welcoming a large new S1 cohort.

The new secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to pedagogy, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) plaza, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning and sustainability. The campus also includes a number of partner spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Lead and manage a large pupil support team, ensuring the highest possible standards in the pastoral, vocational, curricular and learning support that we provide.

  • Take strategic responsibility for improvement planning and quality assurance in relation to a range of HGIOS QIs, with a specific focus on equality, diversity and inclusion.

  • Enact the role of the designated member of staff for child protection and safeguarding, taking full cognisance of national, local, and school-based policy and procedures in a credible and approachable way.

  • Make effective use of quantitative and qualitative data to self-evaluate and contribute to whole school approaches to raising attainment and promoting achievement, with a particular drive to ensure positive destinations.

  • Build positive relationships with all members of the school community, based on our core school values of respect, kindness and responsibility.

  • Exhibit a commitment to ongoing professional learning that links clearly to improving outcomes for young people

    In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), ; recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.

    In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
