Full Job Description

Flintstone Technology Ltd is a mooring systems technology company for the global energy market providing problem solving, innovation and practical solutions.

We are looking to expand our already experienced engineering team and appoint a Design Engineer to join a busy design office in Dundee. 

The Role

The Design Engineer role involves designing and developing Flintstone products for energy markets, including floating offshore wind. These products consist primarily of mooring line connectors, tensioners, and accessories.

The Design Engineer is responsible for the development of new products, improving existing designs, and modifying them to meet specific project requirements. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing calculations to support and verify design work (Finite Element Analysis would be an advantage but is not imperative)
  • Participation in project design reviews
  • Failure mode effect and criticality analysis
  • Report Writing
  • Creating and Managing 3D models and Technical Drawings.
  • Checking and approving of other design engineers’ output.
  • Preparation of project specific documents for presentation to clients, authorities and 3rd parties
  • Meeting clients and users to determine their requirements.
  • Presenting Design Solutions to interested parties.
  • Preparation of draft purchase orders
  • Overseeing testing and reporting conclusions

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of a BSc in mechanical engineering is required
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a similar position is required.
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • 3D CAD knowledge - Solid works preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work on own initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to ensure tasks are prioritised appropriately.
  • Honesty, reliability, and discretion are essential as working with confidential information.
  • Follow instructions and work using own initiative.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work in a small team.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working with and overseeing suppliers
  • Experience working in or designing for the offshore industry
