Full Job Description

Table Tennis Scotland (TTS) is the national governing body for the sport of table tennis in Scotland. As part of the continued development of the organisation, Table Tennis Scotland is seeking to recruit West Lothian Development Officer., The Development Officer role has been introduced with a number of key objectives in mind:

1) Actively promote table tennis within the community, with a focus on increasing participation among young people, over 50s and woman and girls. Travelling to different locations within West Lothian and surrounding areas would be expected so there can be more direct community engagement and outreach to encourage people into the sport (in addition to our Facebook page and website that club committee members and volunteers will continue to operate)

2) Taking a lead on the current satellite site in the Livingston Shopping Centre and investigating if other venues can be opened within West Lothian so that more people in the wider area can access and join the sport we love. This may involve skills development sessions with non-club members

3) Helping to increase engagement with the current player base, especially in regards to retaining newer club members who try to enter the sport but feel that there is a distinct lack of structured group skills development programmes which would otherwise motivate newcomers to continue playing. We feel that this would help to maintain growth of a player base which is currently only being achieved through our current satellite site, Facebook page, website and referrals.

Requirements: The candidate must have rights to work in the UK; a valid UK Drivers License; access to a car; an ability to work independently, a Table Tennis coaching qualification, and must also have a PVG membership for vulnerable adults and children., The role would suit an individual who is approachable, reliable, and who can work on their own initiative. Being committed to delivering results based on our overarching goals is important and having a general passion and proficiency for Table Tennis would be essential.

West Lothian Community Table Tennis club has been running for over 20 years. We are a diverse group of enthusiastic and friendly table tennis players; some play casually as relative newcomers to the sport and others play competitively in the Edinburgh league across all divisions.

The club currently runs club nights 3 times per week in the Bathgate Academy sports hall, between 7-10pm (and 7-9pm in the off season). The club also has access to a satellite venue in the Livingston Shopping centre; this is in a relatively private area and is spacious enough for 6 or 7 tables. Since 2022, volunteers have opened this for a few hours on most days per week with a view of making table tennis more accessible to the wider community.

As a club, we are passionate about table tennis and our mission is to encourage more people of all ages and skill levels to come into the sport and to offer an engaging, safe environment to do so.
